The Manor Majorette troop was formed in 1999, when we noticed a void in the Lewisham area for community
groups for young ladies between the ages of 8 and 18.
Having been in a majorette troop in our youth (Lewisham Display Team) at the old Play Tower, Ladywell, will all my triplet sisters and our older sister,
we decided to start another troop. My daughter, Kayleigh, was a founder member and now has her
own class of beginners.
We started in a small church hall in Lee with 11 girls, none of whom knew what a majorette was. Curiosity
brought them through the doors and they stayed, often bringing friends wishing to join.
Having the girls and the music, we just needed the batons, so with wooden dowling, two door
knobs and washers for weights, a bit of time and ingenuity, we then had batons for the girls.
With the troop getting bigger and bigger, we had to make the decision to relocate to a larger
hall, which is where we are now.
We gave our first public display at our Grandad's 92nd birthday party in his care home and
as they say, the rest is history .......
